What’s Inside You and Why Should You Care?
For children ages 5-11
March 8, 15 & 22
Thursdays: 4:00 – 4:45 p.m.
Cost: $25
Location: Room 176
Instructor: Kathy Gillen
Is your child picky? Are you tired of the battles? Do you wish your children would understand the importance of eating well? What’s Inside You and Why Should You Care is designed to help children understand how their body runs and why food plays such a critical role. Children have fun with the interactive lessons and leave each week with an assignment that combines a fun activity and a lesson. This three lesson program teaches the what, why and how of healthy eating.
The first session is interactive look at what is inside our bodies. Children learn about our amazing 75 trillion cells and how they need certain foods to work. We will look at specific foods and talk about what they do (good or bad) for a body. Children will be asked to be food critics for the week.
The second session addresses why we eat. We will talk about habits, comfort food, boredom, even stress eating can happen at a young age. Body image will also be discussed. A Harry Potter inspired lesson will explain how food transforms in the body. Children will have the opportunity to make happy and sad cells and discuss what foods make their cells happiest.
And then in the third class the children will be encouraged to work on the how. This session is about empowering children to make the wise decisions. They’ll be presented with different scenarios (school, birthday parties etc.) and how to make wise choices at these events. We’ll also talk about ways they can get more fruits and vegetables into their diets.
